HxD is an editor that may prove to be effective in terms of examining and altering the binary data of the corrupted image manually, but it is not a program intended for photo repair. The knowledge of the structure of JPEG files and the understanding of which bytes of the image are corrupted is needed in order to use HxD correctly. Otherwise, there is a risk of corrupting the file even more, so it is important to make a copy of the initial file before editing it. In case of regular corruption problems, it is better to try to open the photo in another viewer or restore it through the corrupted file recovery tools.
